Tesla motors conducts huge life machine-learning experiment
Tesla motors last week updated the software in its fleet of electric cars thereby equipping thousands of already opperative cars with ‘auto pilot’ capabilities. Autopilot is at its core a machine learning algorithm that uses information from all the cars in the fleet. Thereby Tesla created a big life machine learning network. Every car learns from the driving skills of any human Tesla driver and from the mistakes made by any Tesla car in the fleet. This is a huge experiment with huge risks, it seems to me. Not the kind of experiment any company would normally want to engage in. But Tesla is not just any company. Here is what Elon Musk had to say about responsibility, in 2014. Tesla’s approach is to keep responsibility with the driver. Volvo has another philosophy.
