Tesla says that as of now it only delivers cars with hardware ready for full autonomy
This is of course a bold claim, as one can never be sure any given hardware is actually sufficient for a certain level of autonomy. Another problem is that the data gathered until now is more or less useless as it is specific for the ‘old’ set of sensors for the Teslas since 2014. But, no other car company has all their cars on-line like Tesla has. And Tesla produces 2000 cars per week. So within half a year they have more data for the new hardware set than any other company could ever dream of. Maybe Elon Musk is right that at the end of next year a Tesla will drive autonomously from coast to coast. Here is what the hardware is already capable of without the data to be gathered in the coming years.
