Michigan unleashes the self driving cars

In Michigan (the state where car makers like Ford and General motors are located, but where Tesla is forbidden to sell its cars) self driving cars are now allowed to operate without a driver. The legislators of Michigan explicitly state the following about possible crashes and fatalities: “It’s a risk worth taking because the future of the technologies we know are going to help reduce those crashes and reduce those fatalities”. One of their other remarkable comments is: “If the vehicles crash, they would be governed by Michigan’s no-fault insurance laws that require each driver’s insurance to pay for damage”. That is strange given the fact that they allow for a self driving car not to have a driver. More from them: “The companies also could be sued under product liability laws.” and  “The self-driving laws only allow reputable companies such as automakers and tech companies to do tests; these are responsible parties”.
